The feast of the king of the bird is a popular festival inherited from the Renaissance (Middle Ages - medieval). Since 1986, every 3rd weekend of September, the city of Puy-en-Velay (Haute-Loire) finds its Renaissance colors. Through a popular celebration of a high culture, the city takes the pretext of an old and authentic archery (archer)contest to plunge back into its glorious past. For four days, priority was given to street performances and the reconstruction of everyday life in the 16th century in the Velay. Camps of canvas, struggles with the sound of the canon, mercenaries in break of pay, itinerant artisans, kitchen of time, pilgrims leaving for Santiago de Compostela compose a living decoration. From the beginning of the festivals, the quest for authenticity was the true leitmotiv of the organizers. Costumes, everyday life, crafts, cooking, military camps, music and dance ... the visual and sound atmosphere of the King of the Bird must "breathe" XVIth century. From the calligraphy workshop, to the learning of flavors, plants, weapons, ironwork to end with the old games, diving in the Renaissance is total.
