The Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), also known as 'The G', is an iconic sports stadium located in Yarra Park in the city of Melbourne with a capacity of around 100, 000 people. The sporting venue is considered to be the largest stadium in Australia, the southern hemisphere and the 10th largest in the world. It is currently the largest cricket ground in the world by capacity and is thought to have the tallest floodlights of any sports stadium. It is the home of the Melbourne Cricket Club and hosts international and regional cricket matches as well as Australian Football League games. The MCG was opened in 1853 and has been used in the 1956 Summer Olympics, 2006 Commpnwealthh Games and two Cricket World Cups.
