Saturday December 12, 2009, 50-75.000 demonstrators gathered at the Danish parliament square, Christiansborg, showing their concern for climate justice. The demonstration came from more 500 organization world wide, as well as individuals and of all ages. At 14.00 hours they started the 6 kilometer (4 miles) walk from Christiansborg to the Bella Center - the 2009 UN Climate Conference - in order to urge the world leaders to take a firm stand on the climate change. Autonomus groups, primarely from NTAC - Never Trust a Cop -, taking hide in the enormous demonstration train, went into violent action after a few kilometers. Police arrested 968 activist. However, although being the biggest mass arrest ever for the Danish police, this did not disturb the overall picture of a peaceful and colourful manifestation by concerned people from all over the world. During December 12. similar demonstrations happened in numerous major cities world wide.
