The Dores & Essich Parish extends from the outskirts of Inverness to the shores of Loch Ness. Much of the parish is rural. Much of the land is farmed with extensive tracts of plantation and natural forest. The main settlement is the village of Dores. Dores is a pleasant village situated on the northern end of Loch Ness. Its inhabitants mostly work in Inverness 10 miles away. At Dores you will see the start of Loch Ness and here you can stroll along the shingle of Dores Beach. Further along the road, almost opposite the fish farm on the left side of the road is the Well of the Phantom Hand. It is here you may have stopped for a drink of water as you travelled along the road many years ago. It is not easy to find but there is a stone bearing an inscription above the well.
