The newly developed plateau in front of the Grade II listed building of Lime Street Railway Station - the Gateway to Liverpool. Formerly a row of shops, a cafe and a 1960's high rise office block, the area in front of the Grade II listed building that is Lime Street Station has been redeveloped into an open plateau. Lime Street in Liverpool city centre where Lime Street railway station and St. Georges Hall are situated. Lime Street was made famous by the old seaman's song 'Maggie May'. Once a popular place in the nineteenth century where prostitutes hung about to meet seamen, Maggie May was one of the more well known ones. The song starts: Oh, Maggie, Maggie May, they have taken her away, and she'll never walk down Lime Street any more.
