Informations supplémentaires:
St Ives is almost surrounded by sea at the foot of the UK and had an isolated existence until 1877 when the Great Western Railway began running. The pretty seaside town then opened itself to the outside world, the residents had increased access further afield and the picturesque St Ives became a popular holiday destination by rail. Before tourism the town was dependent on fishing and tin mining activities in the area. When both these industries declined St Ives became more reliant on trade from holiday visitors. The location with its unusually mild climate and special quality of light has attracted many artists over the years. It now boasts a branch of the Tate gallery together with its many smaller existing studios.St Ives has won many travel awards over the years.
