From left to right: Our Lady of the city of Vladimir (left), The New Testament Trinity (center), Sophia, the Wisdom of God (right). The cathedral is devoted to the Dormition of the Theotokos. It was built in 1479 under the supervision of the Italian architect Aristotele Fioravanti. Fioravanti studied Russian methods of construction and architectural style and then created a masterpiece that combined the spirit of Renaissance with Russian traditions. The cathedral served as a place of the coronation of Russian tsars (czars) from 1547 to 1896. It is also a burial place of the most of Patriarchs of the Russian Orthodox Church and Moscow Metropolitans.
