BBC Crimewatch presenter Nick Ross at the launch of The Jill Dando Institute of Crime Science at West Bromwich Police Station, West Midlands. * Mr Ross was opening the centre in memory of his colleague, who was murdered outside her west London home three years ago. The laboratory has been installed in the former West Bromwich police social club. The institute, based at University College, London, chose West Bromwich because of West Midlands Police's sophisticated database of crime, evidence and forensics, known as the Force Linked Intelligence System, or Flints. Experts working at the laboratory will study a range of subjects, from criminology to statistics, with the aim of establishing new methods of reducing and detecting crime.
