At centre is the star cluster NGC 346, where hot young stars are producing radiation andstellar winds that are sculpting and impacting thesurrounding gas and dust, causing it to glow (pinkcolour). The visible ridge-like structure of darknebulae (across top) are dust globules where newstars may be forming. The N66 starbirth region is210, 000 light years from Earth, in the SmallMagellanic Cloud, in the constellation Tucana.This image was obtained in July 2004 with Hubbleandamp;apos;sAdvanced Camera for Surveys instrument.
