This full size representation of the 18th century Spanish warship Santisima Trinidad can be found on the quayside of Alicante Harbour. In 2006 a merchant ship was fitted to mimic the appearance of the Santisima Trinidad and therefore is not a true replica. The original ship was built in Havana as an 112-gun three decker and launched in 1769. She was larger than her British contemporary Victory. She became the flagship of the Spanish fleet taking part in the Franco-Spanish operations in the English Channel in 1779. She took part in the Battle of Trafalgar on 21 October 1805 where she was severely damaged and sank in a storm the day after the battle. It is believed that her wreck may have been found during the testing of a new sidescan sonar by the Spanish Navy in 2009.
