Rode Hall was built in three stages; in 1708 the two story wing of the present house was completed and the main house was built separately in 1752. Between 1800 and 1810 the two houses were joined together and the interior was changed significantly by the architect, John Hope and after his death, Lewis Wyatt. The house contains a fine collection of Gillow furniture and there is an important collection of English porcelain. Humphry Repton, designed the landscape although the work was carried out by John Webb, a locally based landscapist. The formal gardens were designed by Nesfield in 1860 and there is a recently completed Italian garden together with a large walled kitchen garden. The Gardens are open for snowdrops in February and in May the rhododendrons and azaleas are at their best.
