Park Smart campaign to raise awareness of the dangerous and potentially fatal situations that parents are creating in the roads surrounding our primary school, to highlight the steps some schools have taken to improve safety and to prevent further accidents. Road safety, parking legally and consideration to all pedestrians goes out the window because whilst their child is safe inside their car, they don’t see the 600 or so other children making their way into school and the consequences if they cause an accident. Parents park on zig zag lines, on yellow lines, on bends where children try to cross and on the pavement rather than parking safely in a side road and walking the last few minutes into school. A mother who parked her car on the zig zag lines outside school this afternoon, she didn't even bother to turn her engine off. Last year the Police had a spell of dishing out on the spot fines to anyone flouting the parking restrictions outside the school which did stop this illegal parking. But now there's a new intake of children, the new parents have started parking on the yellow lines. The parking restrictions are there because the parked cars impede the view of cars approaching the pelican crossing. There's plenty of parking away from the school, its just bone idle people who can't be bothered to walk the short distance to the school
