Thorsmork - Iceland, June 9, 2010 : Volcanic ash from Eyjafjallajokull volcano is still blowing around south and southwest Iceland. Plants and animals are fighting for survival in the Thorsmork (Þórsmörk) area, which is a popular travel destination in Iceland, but has been closed until last weekend due to the eruption at Eyjafjallajokull. Much of this area is covered in a layer of volcanic ash and it is so fine-grained that it blows around even with moderate winds. Thorsmork is situated in the south of Iceland between the glaciers Tindfjallajokull and Eyjafjallajokull. Its now over two weeks since the Eyjafjallajokull eruption stopped spewing ash that blew over to continental Europe, but there are reports of black and white clouds seen rising again from the top of the volcano. Experts do not think that this means the eruption will necessarily start again anytime soon. See also my images on Alamy of volcanic ash in Reykjavik: http://bit.ly/boH6HO
