Informations supplémentaires:
A Canadian Pacific freight train as it passes a sign notifying train engineers that they are not to use locomotive horns at grade crossings in the an area designated as a quiet zone. This zone is in Bartlett, Illinois in suburban Chicago and while it may pacify some nearby homeowners, the absence of the use of traditional railroad warning horns increases the danger to vehicles and pedestrians crossing tracks. It is somewhat ironic that homeowners have been able to yield sufficient political pressure to have a safety feature suspended in light of the fact that the railroad and its safety work rules predate the homeowners by many decades. Sadly, just a few weeks prior to this image being taken a senior pedestrian was struck by a passing train while crossing the tracks at a pedestrian crossing and the quiet zone rules were in effect at that time providing no audible warning beyond the noise of the train itself.
