Informations supplémentaires:
Nafplio , is not just a perfect destination for romantic "escapes" from Athens, but also a town with great history and great architectonic importance. In the old part of the town you can see some great examples of Venetian architecture, some Islamic monuments from the Ottoman Era and some beautiful Neoclassical buildings. You can also see 3 beautiful castles , Bourtzi, on the little island that you can see in the middle of the Gulf, Akronafplia on the small peninsula that you can see in the center of the photo and the magnificent Palamidi , from where I took the photo. To reach there I had to climb the 999 stairs that connect the town with the castle. I stood there for a couple of hours to take some sunset and “blue” hour photos. Nafplio, was the first capital of Greece (before Athens), after the liberation of the country from the Ottoman empire. It is the town, where the first Governor of Greece, Ioannis Kapodistrias, was murdered. Very close to Nafplio you can find many, very important archaeological sites, like Mycenae and Tiryns (World Heritage Sites by UNESCO), the Acropolis and the ancient theater of Argos (often referred as the most ancient city of the world still existing) and the world famous Ancient Theater of Epidavros.
