Entrance portal of the Royal Palace of Aranjuez, UNESCO World Heritage Site, Madrid Province, Spain, Europe. The Royal Palace of Aranjuez is one of the residences of the Spanish royal family, located in the Royal Site and Villa de Aranjuez, in the Community of Madrid. The palace, which is managed and maintained by Patrimonio Nacional, is located on the banks of the Tagus River. The immense gardens, designed to extol the royal residence on the arid and dry plateau in the center of the Iberian Peninsula, and irrigated with the waters of the Tagus and Jarama rivers, are the most important from the Habsburg period. They achieved singular renown thanks to the Concierto de Aranjuez, by Joaquín Rodrigo, considered the most listened to Spanish musical composition in the world. In 2001 this environment was declared a "Cultural Landscape Heritage of Humanity" by Unesco.
