Informations supplémentaires:
Renner-Carney House was built for Thomas Renner, liquor merchant and proprietor of the Union Hotel. Renner sold the property in 1914 to Michael Carney Sr., West India Merchant and Consul for Haiti, and his son, Dr. Michael J. Carney. Dr. Carney was a provincially acclaimed pediatrician and Head of the Children’s Hospital in Halifax. Constructed in the Victorian Eclectic style, the red brick building has a central tower with pyramid rood extending through a mansard roof. The building has two projecting bays and dormers, with pediments, flanking a central main entrance. A heavy belt course separates the basement from the main floor. The windows have a Palladian arrangement and are surrounded by decorative motifs such as intricate brickwork that form arches. The central entrance on the first floor is raised from the street and surrounded by a transom and side lights. There are two modern entrances from the street into the basement, one under each projecting bay.
