Sammy Davis Junior was often described as 'the world's greatest living entertainer'. This picture shows him playing zylophone on stage at BBC Television Theatre in the 1960s in a programme directed by Denis Main Wilson. Born 8 December 1928 in Harlem Sammy Davis was one of the first Americans of African descent to be accepted on both sides of the colour barrier. He was a member of the famous Rat Pack with Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop, which performed at the Sands, Las Vegas. In 1960 the Rat Pack made the movie 'Ocean's Eleven', later followed by 'Sergeants 3' and 'Robin and the Seven Hoods'. Davis married Swedish actress May Britt in 1960. They divorced in 1968. He married Altovise Gore in 1970. He died of throat cancer on 16 May 1990. PER0114
