the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle in Merano/Meran is an item you may want to put on your list of things to do while on holiday in South Tyrol. With over 80 garden landscapes spread across 12 hectares with an altitude difference of 100 metres, the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle are a stupendous treat for nature-lovers and a worthy attraction for everyone spending their holidays in Merano/Meran. Flowers, bushes and trees from all over the world thrive in astounding variety within the carefully groomed areas of these gardens. Several animals species inhabit the grounds: Rabbits, peacocks, sheep, snakes, parrots, Chinese ducks and Japanese carp are a compelling draw for themselves, especially for children! A number of Experience Stations, themed gardens, artistic pavilions and more enrich the botanical context, making the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle as spectacular as they are unique. Since 2002 the Touriseum – South Tyrol’s Museum of Tourism – has been a welcome addition to the already rich palette of attractions at the Trauttmansdorff Castle. Beautifully restored, the rooms of the castle now offer a journey into 200 years of Alpine tourism history.
