This mural, called The Allegory of Death is a candid reminder of death; featuring crucifixes, angels and devils, tortured souls in hell, and a large figure of St. Michael the archangel. A group of wall paintings, including the Allegory of Death and Judgement Day(by Hugh Clopton) should have been destroyed in 1563, but John Shakespeare(William Shakespeare’s father) had them covered in limewash instead, preserving them for centuries.
