French retailer Carrefour SA on Friday (15 January 2016) reported that sales were in line with analyst expectations for the fourth quarter as its performance picked up in key European markets, including France and Italy, even as revenue declined in Latin America and China. The company said sales for the three months ended December 30 declined 0.8% to 22.43 billion euros ($20.6 billion) from a year earlier, due in part to negative currency effects. Analysts had expected the company to report sales of 22.4 billion euros. In France, sales grew 1% in total, attesting to a continued turnaround in Carrefour's home market. Overall, sales in France totaled 10.67 billion euros. Sales fell in Latin America, pressured by a 14% decline in Brazil, while China was down 7.5%.
