The maximum speed of the trains increased to 350 kph between Beijing and Shanghai in September 2017, cutting the journey between the Chinese capital and the country's major financial hub to 4 hours and 28 minutes. Authorities are advancing innovation to make the country's railways smarter in construction, equipment, operation, maintenance and services, said Lu. He said China already tops the world in high-speed railway mileage, traffic density, and network operation complexity, with world-leading technology, safety and efficiency. Fuxing bullet trains with smarter technology will operate on a new rail linking Beijing and Zhangjiakou, co-hosts of the 2022 Winter Olympics, in 2019, according to the CRC.
