"Daliani" is a traditional way of fishing, that is still used by a few dozen of people close to Preveza in the Amvrakikos Gulf. The fishermen work in small groups of 4-5 people. One of them is the "observer", sitting on top of this wooden tower. Each one of the group takes seat up there when his turn comes. Every 1-2 hours there's a "change of guard". There is a fence on one side, trying to "guide" any passing school of fishes towards the net. When the fishes enter the net, the "observer" shouts to the other 3-4 to lift the net from the opposite side, so they can trap the fishes inside. Then the fishermen on the ground take a boat and collect the fishes from the lifted net. What's important in this kind of fishing, is that the fishes are "wild", naturally grown, they just happen to pass by. Nothing to do with fishes from fish farm, which are fed and grow 2 or 3 times faster than normal.
