This is a portrait of a field in the "club" of Orion the Hunter, in northern Orion, that contains the emission nebula (at top) catalogued as Sharpless 2-262, or LBN 863, but known popularly as Lower's Nebula for its discovery in 1939 by the father and son team of Harold and Charles Lower. Below it just right of centre is the small, loose star cluster NGC 2169, with its stars arranged in a number 37 or XY pattern. It is sometimes called the Number 37 Cluster. At lower left is the rich star cluster NGC 2194. The small red nebula above NGC 2194 is Sharpless 2-269, with faint Sh2-267 above it. A region of faint and purple-tinted emission and reflection nebulosity at centre is Sh2-268, mixed with the dark nebula LDN 1591. A small round red nebula in the lower left corner below NGC 2194 is Sh2-271. This is a stack of 19 x 6-minute exposures with the Astro-Tech AT90CFT refractor at f/4.8 and filter-modified Canon EOS R camera at ISO 800, though no filter was used when taking these frames. Taken from home on a very clear night November 18/19, 2023. Autoguided with the MGEN3 stand-alone autoguider on the Mach1 mount. Applications of luminosity masks with Lumenzia and the Nebula Filter action from the PhotoKemi action set, and the Detail Extractor filter from the Nik Collection 6 Color EFX plug-in brought out the nebulosity.
